KIDesign is an introduction to architecture and design in the world around us. 1st through 6th grade children will participate in various activities as they learn, create, and design their own projects with members of the local architectural community. KIDesign is held each April during Architecture Week.
Our 2017 event will take place on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Old Surety Insurance Company located at 5201 N. Lincoln Boulevard, OKC. Registration is FREE. All children attend this program free and in order to do that, we rely on the generous support of sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring, please see more information here: KIDesign-Sponsorship-2017!
We still have space available in all classes! Register today!

The first grade group will start the day by exploring some of the basic concepts of architecture, including the roles of a client, architect, and contractor. Through this process we will get hands on with sequences of design and construction, as we create individual and unique clients and respective spaces to house them. We will then mesh our creations into what will likely be a very unique class community. At the end of the day we will come together to analyze and interact with our collective buildings and spaces. The first grade group will lead the way as developers, architects, and builders, to establish a one of kind community for whatever their imaginations dictate will inhabit it.
2nd & 3rd Gade
The 2nd and 3rd grade group will be introduced to architectural design through a series of fun activates and projects that will cover key aspects of this unique profession. They will be interactively introduced to the many various architectural concepts such as shapes, texture and building materials. Many examples of great architecture, and how they impact and support the community, will be reviewed. To complete the day, the group will use the full extent of their imagination, along with new architectural design skills, to create their very own community neighborhood. It is hoped each child will walk away with a clearer understanding of architecture and a greater courage to further develop the imagination and creativity they possess.
4th, 5th & 6th Grade
The 4th, 5th and 6th grade class will participate in an interactive investigation into the various ideas and perceptions that form architecture. This debate will help identify the basic concepts behind what architecture is, the affects it has on the surrounding environment, and the role an architect plays in developing it. To conclude their experience the students will use the skills they have learned throughout the day and apply them to making a model of the building of their choice.
